About
Welcome to Jenesis, my blog about living beyond ovarian cancer. My name is Jennifer Hollington; most people call me Jen. On July 29, 2020, I learned that I had ovarian cancer after going to the emergency department of my local hospital. On August 6, 2020, I took leave from my job as the Assistant Deputy Minister of Communications for Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada and launched this blog to document my journey back to health. Nine months after completing treatment for ovarian cancer, I learned that I had a second cancer, namely, perianal skin cancer. And in 2023, I underwent a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy to reduce my risk of breast cancer because of a faulty BRCA2 gene. This blog reflects my cancer journey and my perspectives on life. I hope that you will find it both useful and inspiring.
