[2021-11-07] Shane's choice
I'm thrilled to share that Shane has bought a place. It's a condominium apartment in the beautiful neighbourhood of Hintonburg. It's minutes from the major transit hub of Tunney's Pasture and the Parkdale Market, close to green spaces, and steps from a plethora of restaurants, shops and services.
Today, Shane and I spent part of the day taking stock of what he already has for his new apartment and what he will need when he takes possession in mid-December.
It's an exciting time for him, as he gets to make this place his own.
I'm excited too. I look forward to helping Shane decorate his apartment as he discovers his style and preferences. I imagine dropping off grocery items after I do a Costco run. And I anticipate moving our weekend meal prep sessions to his place.
I feel lucky to be retired. It gives me the time to shop and cook and drop off little things that will help Shane make this house his home.
I'm proud of my son for taking this step. I'm grateful that he will be only a 16-minute drive away. And I look forward to watching him grow in his new place.
I adore watching the next generation—my kids, my nieces and nephews, my former employees—choose their direction in life: the fields they study, the jobs they take, the locations they move to, the living arrangements they select, the families they establish, the financial decisions they make.
There is no one path to a fulfilling life. Similarly, there is no requirement to remain on one path once you've chosen it. You can change majors, careers, cities, households, relationship status. You can follow in the footsteps of those who went before you, or you can set out in a completely different direction. You can emulate your contemporaries, or you can do the opposite.
Make choices that make you happy, and remember that you can make a different choice tomorrow from the one you made today.
