[2022-03-18] Charity
Author James Clear talks about charity not merely as a gift but also as a lifestyle. He suggests that you can make being charitable a habit, for example:
- Read charitably. Give the author your most favorable interpretation.
- Listen charitably. Donate your undivided attention.
- Work charitably. Be generous with your expertise.
Charity can be viewed as something you do as much as something you give.
I thought about the many ways we can behave charitably. Here are a few more to add to Clear's list:
- Think charitably. Remember that everyone is different.
- Speak charitably. Be kind in what you say about others.
- Answer charitably. Assume good faith on the part of the person asking the question.
- Discuss charitably. Consider the viewpoints of others in addition to your own.
- Shop charitably. Support local businesses and reward good service.
- Drive charitably. Be courteous and forgive the minor transgressions of other drivers.
- Coach charitably. See the potential in others.
- Edit charitably. Make others' work better, not just different.
- Comment charitably. Start with what worked before stating what didn't.
- Teach charitably. Remember what it was like to be a beginner in the subject.
- Play charitably. Include those who want to join the fun.
- Win charitably. Be a humble winner.
- Write charitably. Inspire others with your words.
