[2022-07-13] Shane's new closet
I returned to Shane's place today to finish our organizing project, along with a few other tasks.
Yesterday, we assembled his new dresser. Today we filled it, organizing much of what was previously on open shelves into space-optimizing drawers. The results were spectacular.
But we didn't stop there, we moved on to Shane's hall closet. Then we washed the Plexiglas surround on his balcony and his floor-to-ceiling windows. Shane also vacuumed and mopped his entire apartment. By 4:00 PM, we were both spent but content. We sat and chatted on his balcony for a few minutes, enjoying the late-day warmth and taking pride in what we had accomplished.
I do not take for granted my ability to undertake projects like the one Shane and I tackled over the past two days. There were many times in the past two years when I would not have had the energy to clean and organize a home: when recovering from surgery (twice), undergoing chemotherapy, and going through radiation treatment. It's a blessing to feel healthy.
I'm also incredibly lucky to have—to date—avoided COVID, despite the fact that my husband, son and daughter all got it. My husband tested positive 10 days ago, my son, 8 days ago, and my daughter, 7 days ago. I have tested myself four times since then and gotten a negative result every time. It's still possible that I will come down with the illness as a result of my exposure to my family members, but that seems increasingly unlikely as each day goes by. I may get COVID, but in the meantime, I'm enjoying every day that I have energy in abundance, no fever and no symptoms.
A day like today combines two of my favourite priorities: family and organizing. Tomorrow, I will move on to something else, as yet undetermined.
