[2023-06-15] How far you've come

Do you find yourself wondering what you've accomplished in life? Questioning the contribution you are making to the world? Comparing yourself to others and feeling like you come up short? Do you doubt yourself even though others say you are doing great?

On those occasions, it may help to ask yourself, "What would I have to say if someone came to me looking for advice?" You may remember strengths, skills and accomplishments that you've forgotten.

If you've obtained a university degree, you will have valuable insights for the high school graduate just embarking on their post-secondary education.
If you've built or renovated a house, you will have helpful advice for the budding do-it-yourselfer.
If you've won a competition, you will have handy tips for the young professional just starting out in their career.
If you've rebuilt a vehicle, you will have copious do's and don'ts to share with the car enthusiast.
If you've learned to make sourdough bread from your own starter, you will have useful guidance to provide the would-be baker.

You may forget just how far you've come, but compared to someone who is just starting out in an endeavour that you've worked at for a few years, you will seem so much further ahead. And your counsel will be appreciated.

Remind yourself of how far you've come, how much you've learned, and how significant an influence you've had on others. And then tell yourself, "you're doing great."
