[2023-07-10] Recovery day 3
I took what felt like a small step backward last night. I didn't sleep well because my back was sore from lying in the same position for so long. I ended up getting up and sitting at my computer chair, reading a book. In addition to the discomfort in my back, I was experiencing more of those stabbing pains in my left breast—still fleeting, but sharp and annoying nonetheless. After about an hour of reading, I gingerly got back into bed and managed to fall asleep.
Today felt like a new day. I've had very few stabbing pains. I pulled out my heating pad—a gift from a cherished friend when I went through ovarian cancer—and used it to soothe my back muscles.
I even managed to lean over the edge of my bathtub so that my husband could wash my hair. He has been taking good care of me (as has my daughter), but his hair-styling technique needs a little work. I'm not complaining, but I do look like Justin Timberlake during his NSYNC days, with short, super curly hair. ☺
As expected, the fluid from my drains is diminishing in volume and changing colour from red to pink to yellow. As happy as I will be to have the drains removed in a few days, I don't dislike them as much as I thought I would. If they keep the swelling down, minimize pain and allow for quicker healing, they're worth it.
I took a brief nap this afternoon. It's hard to get much sleep when I get alerts on my phone throughout the day to remind me to take various medications.
All in all, though, I feel like I'm doing well. My recovery proceeds—day by day.
