[2024-07-05] Bluesfest and birthday eve

After today's shift at Bluesfest, Chris and I took a stroll around the grounds, catching a few tunes by country artist Jaclyn Kenyon (1) and a few songs by Southern soul and roots rock band Bywater Call (2).

We also stopped by the Crazy Horse Saloon (3)—a large bar tent that mimic's the Crazy Horse Steakhouse and Saloon in Kanata. I already loved Crazy Horse, which was incredibly accommodating when we held my brother's 50th birthday there in 2019. The Bluesfest version of the Saloon does a surprisingly good job of capturing the look and feel of a country bar. It's definitely worth checking out.

When I returned home from Bluesfest, I was greeted by a bright, red bag (6) on my front steps. I knew immediately that it was from my sister, this being my birthday eve and her knowing that I love red. She and I share a love of themed birthday gifts. For her birthday in May, I put together a bucket of sunshine, with a selection of gifts that were predominantly yellow (5). Given the proximity of my birthday to Canada Day, my sister's red-and-white theme was fitting. My sister is the crafty one of the two of us, knitting a toque and heart ornament and making rhubarb butter and rhubarb chutney. Yum.

We'll take a break from Bluesfest tomorrow to spend time, en famille, celebrating my birthday.
