[2024-07-12] New trail
Chris and I took a walk on a new path today—at least, a new path for us. It was the very picturesque Trillium Woods, which we accessed behind the City of Ottawa's Richcraft Recreation Complex in Kanata North.
The 134-acre Trillium Woods offer 5 km of well-marked trails. They are suitable for hiking, mountain biking, skiing, snowshoeing and more. We found the part of the path we walked on to be well groomed and relatively flat. We encountered a few muddy spots, given all the rain as of late. The path we took was entirely in shade thanks to the many mature sugar maples, beech, white pine and red oak trees. The only sunny spot on our trek was a bridge over a rushing stream.
The mosquitoes were persistent despite our having applied insect repellant before going on our walk. I recommend you take bug spray with you on your hike to douse any areas you might have missed.
The Trillium Woods entry in the City of Ottawa's Conservation areas webpage indicates that the woods connect with the trails of the 450-acre South March Highlands Conservation Forest, north of Terry Fox Road. Perhaps we'll explore that in future.
