[2024-08-14] Upper Canada Village 2024

Today, my husband, my mom, my sister-in-law and I traveled to Morrisburg for a day at Upper Canada Village. The photo montage below doesn't do justice to all that we saw and heard.

The highlights for me (other than getting to spend the day with family) were:
  • Seeing the progress on the village quilt, which showcases many of the buildings and equipment on display at Upper Canada Village; started in 2019, the quilt is just weeks away from being finished.
  • Talking to the interpreters, especially the seamstress, the operator of the general store, the gardeners, the cook in the summer kitchen, the cheese maker, the tinsmith, the workers in the sawmill, and the gardener who was just passing through Cook's Tavern but stopped to share his knowledge with us.
  • Seeing the piglets scampering around the site.
  • Talking to two girls who were participating in a week-long camp at the village: one who wants to study history and one who is interested in psychology.
  • Eating lunch at Willard's Hotel, consisting of a garden salad with sweet cider vinaigrette and a classic British pudding.
The weather was perfect, and the location, as serene as ever.

Traffic getting to and from the village was another story. But let's not go there.

When we finally got home, I had a quick supper with my daughter then went off with her to play pickleball. After completing my nightly Duolingo, I had just enough energy to put together the photo montage and this short reflection on my day.
