[2024-08-20] Moment of Good: Terry Fox
Today's Moment of Good came in the form of my 2024 Terry Fox Run t-shirt and a letter from Fred Fox, brother of Terry Fox. As many know, Terry Fox ran more than 5,000 km in 143 days to raise money for cancer research. Fred Fox says in his letter:
When Terry was running his Marathon of Hope in 1980, he always took the time to meet and thank the people who cheered him on, offered him a meal, sheltered him and his best friend Doug for a night. He never forgot the kindness of Canadians in communities big and small, who sustained and uplifted him during those 14-hour, 40+ kilometre days.
The theme of this year's Terry Fox Run is #NoMatterWhat, a sentiment that Fred says echoes Terry's intense drive and unbreakable spirit. He adds that he sees that commitment in the many volunteers and supporters who contribute to The Terry Fox Foundation. Fred writes:
You choose to show up at our Run because it matters to you. You choose to contribute to cancer research because it matters to you. You make the world a better place because it matters to you.
Walking in the Terry Fox Run and the Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope are the two fundraising efforts I participate in each year. Both causes are important to me. They matter.
Many people do their bit to make the world a better place. It shows, and it matters.
