[2020-12-18] Big box of happiness and Christmas trivia

Today, I received The Big Box of Happiness. It's actually a little box, but it's brimming with ideas to cope with stress and break out of a rut. Each of the 96 happiness cards in the bright yellow box provides a suggestion for how to engage in a little self-care—all while living in the moment.

Some examples:
  • Read a poem. (Here's a favourite that I haven't yet shared: The Children's Hour by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.)
  • Buy flowers for yourself. (What a brilliant idea.)
  • Meditate. Or try to. (I love the honesty of this card.)
  • Go through old photos. (I've been doing this lately as I try to collate electronic photos in one place, and it's been incredibly enjoyable.)
  • Light some candles. (What better time of year to light some candles?)
  • Buy yourself a present. (I ordered a special tea—Decaf Spiced Chai—directly from Bigelow's in the US, as it's so hard to find in Canada.)
  • Re-read one of your favorite books. (I'm currently listening to dramatizations of Agatha Christie murder mysteries on Audible.)
The friend who sent this thoughtful gift to me was inspired by my reference to a Box of Sunshine in Spread a little sunshine. The "Buy yourself a present" happiness card is followed by "Buy someone else a present." In the spirit of the latter idea, I offer a gift to all of you: a trivia game that I created using a Jeopardy-style template that a friend shared with me. I won't share my game publicly, as I'm planning to use it for the Hollington Christmas Zoom on December 25. But I will happily share my Christmas trivia game with anyone who sends me an email (which you can find under Contact in the Jenesis blog).
