[2021-07-07] The power of 7
Once again this month, my CA125 level is 7. That makes three 7s in a row.
If I were superstitious or into numerology or a gambler, I'd be thinking that today's result is both lucky and significant, even more so because it's the 7th day of the 7th month in '21.
But I'm none of these. I'm simply grateful and thrilled that the level of cancer antigen in my blood remains low and stable—exactly what I and my healthcare team want to see.
Today, a friend sent me a link to a song that reminded her of the changes I had made after my cancer diagnosis, especially the launch of my blog. The song is The Letter by Brady Daniell-Smith:
This is the first day of my life
The seas are changing
There's a distant shore in sight
Put it out there
Put it out
Show them what's within
Show them what's beneath your skin
Put it out there
Put it out
Let the sunlight in
A brand new day begins
It's time to let the sunlight in
Put it out
Put it out there, love
Put it out there,
Put it out
Put it out
Put it out there, love
Remember who,
Remember who you are, love
It's time to let the sunlight in
When I started my blog on August 6, it felt like it was the first day of a very different life—one in which work was no longer the primary focus of my life, as my health suddenly took centre stage. It was a bit like being at sea. And the distant shore upon which I, happily, find myself today was barely in sight back then.
From that day, I've "put it out there," sharing updates on my treatment and progress. I've shown readers what's within me: my fears, joys and triumphs. Not only did I let the sunlight in, in the form of support from family, friends and readers, but I think I reflected that sunshine back out.
I have often taken solace in songs. If, like me, you have gone through a big change or if you are in the midst of one now, perhaps it's time to put yourself out there, show others what's within you, let the sunlight in—and always remember who you are.
