[2024-05-02] The value of a moment
Three years ago, I wrote a post about an ordinary day when our little family of four had come together around the kitchen table for a simple meal and a game of Jeopardy. Though it was a day like many others, it felt special. I realized how lucky we were to be together, something that was not a given after my ovarian cancer diagnosis.
A friend responded to that post with this quote by Dr. Seuss:
Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment, until it becomes a memory.
Tonight, as Mel and I engaged in our weekly mother-daughter game of table tennis, she commented on how amazing it is that we share this activity—something we've been doing for a year. It reminded me of the nightly walks I used to take with my mom when I lived at home.
Not every day produces a moment that will become a memory. But many do, especially if we pause to see the extraordinary in the ordinary.
